Flight Control Boards That Are The Brains Of FPV/Model Airplanes And Drones

Start planning your vacation with our trip guides, It’s time to explore the world. Capture everything!

As we know, all advanced creatures have a brain. Our brain gives the appropriate response to the incoming stimuli with our organs. Flight control cards, which are indispensable for drones, also work with the same principle. With the advancement of flight control cards technology, the processor and hardware features of the cards started to increase with each passing day. In this article, we will talk about boarding passes and their usage features.

What are Flight Control Cards? What is the Working Principle?

The flight control card regulates the command signals it receives from the user under the control of the unmanned aerial vehicle by receiving it from the receiver on the aircraft control card. The flight control card is a circuit board that enables the UAV to move through the information it receives from the sensors. Sensors are just like a nervous system and are essential for boarding cards. Almost all flight control boards have gyro (gyro) and accelerometer. Advanced flight control boards have sensors such as GPS, compas, distance sensor and barometer.

The Importance of Sensors in Flight Control Boards

Sensors and flight control board are like a nervous system. The flight control card, which is the brain of the UAV, evaluates the information it receives from the sensors and gives the necessary power to the engines. Thanks to this, it enables the UAV to make the desired movement. Correctly processing the information received from the sensors and controlling the motors require professional software and experience.

Most Used Sensors in Flight Controllers

Gyroscope:

It is one of the best sensors involved in the stabilization of the UAV. It measures the rotation speed of the UAV in three axes (roll, pitch, yaw). By making use of the data received by the gyroscope, the flight control board powers the engines.

Barometer:

It is the pressure sensor used to measure the height of the UAV. Autopilot is an indispensable part of drone use. It allows the drone to cruise at a certain height. It is one of the most important sensors used in autonomous landing and take-off.

Air speed Sensor:

Another name is 'pitot'. It is one of my favorite sensors. Not used in multirotors. It is used in fixed-wing drones. It allows us to obtain the speed of the aircraft by measuring the dynamic pressure and static pressure created by the fluidized air. It is used for precision autonomous landing in fixed-wing unmanned aerial vehicles.

Accelerometer:

It measures the acceleration of the UAV in a single axis and works together with the gyroscope.

What is the Communication with the Ground Station
and for What Purposes is it Used?

The Ground Station enables us to obtain the data transferred from the sensors to the flight card in the air during the movement of the drone, with the telemetry module on the firmware interface on the computer.

The information we obtain through the computer is called telemetry.

This information includes values such as altitude, pitch, role, yaw values, outside air temperature, pressure, engine speed, radio signal strength, horizontal and vertical speed.

Software Used in Ground Stations

It is a ground station software that allows us to easily read telemetry information from ground stations (Ground Station) and to control the unmanned aerial vehicle from a computer. Thanks to these programs, the user feels that he is in the 'virtual cockpit'. The user can monitor the movement of the aircraft from meters away with FPV analog or digital imaging systems.

What Should Be Considered When Choosing Boarding Passes?

Besides all that we are talking about, it is necessary to remember that each flight controller serves different purposes. At this point, you should start by determining your flight style.

You must have information about which ground station program you want to use and what the card supports.

What else do you want to integrate into the herpes card? The board should be selected by considering the devices that are desired to be integrated into the flight board (led, sensor, osd, telemetry).

The size of the card to be selected is determined according to the body size of the fixed-wing or multi-rotor drone to be used.
Do you want to use the unmanned aerial vehicle for a hobby match? Or, what kind of software languages do you want to use in projects that require open source for powerful processes such as artificial intelligence?

Cinematic

This type of quad flight controllers serves the purpose of obtaining smooth videos. This type of flight controller has reduced flight characteristics and slow control stick rates.

Autonomous flying

A lot of flyers, especially beginners, look to fly the quadcopter without using too many controls. The autonomous drone controllers can do most of the work for you with its auto programmed feature. Eg, auto take-off, auto landing, one-click return home, etc.

Sports flying

Sports flying is the most advanced flying style and liked by most of the experienced users. In this mode, you have to make quick changes during flight and you would have to vary between very aggressive and very passive maneuvers. This type of flying helps you to do fast roll rates, 360 degree flips, hold a particular angle, etc. This is why a sports quadcopter flight controller is lovable by pro users.

Popular DroneFlight ControlCards

Sensors and flight control board are like a nervous system. Thanks to this, it enables the UAV to make the desired movement.
